Report Launch - Using Results-Based Financing to Address Forced Displacement in Cities

This event will launch the new report, “Using Results-Based Financing to Address Forced Displacement in Cities”, from the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Results-Based Approaches (GPRBA). The report highlights the potential of RBF to significantly improve responses to forced displacement, benefiting both displaced individuals and the cities that host them.

117.3 million people are forcibly displaced from their homes across the world, with most of them displaced within their own countries as of June 2023. The escalation of new conflicts and the overlapping crises of forced displacement and climate change, highlight the urgency of addressing the needs of the displaced. Forced displacement is also increasingly urban and protracted, posing significant developmental challenges for cities hosting displaced populations. The sudden influx of displaced individuals in cities creates physical, spatial, social, economic and institutional challenges, especially in cities already struggling with rapid growth and scarce resources. It’s a daunting challenge, but Results-Based Financing (RBF) offers a way to transform these pressures into opportunities for both displaced people and their host cities.

We are pleased to invite you launch event of a new report, “Using Results-Based Financing to Address Forced Displacement in Cities”, from the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Results-Based Approaches (GPRBA). This report highlights the potential of RBF to significantly improve responses to forced displacement, benefiting both displaced individuals and the cities that host them. It has proven effective in incentivizing improved service delivery for underserved populations, offering local implementers flexibility in adapting interventions, building organizational capacity in results, performance management, and monitoring and evaluation, and addressing financing gaps. This online event will discuss the key messages of the report and feature practitioners sharing their perspectives on Urban Forced Displacement (UFD), use of RBF and its relevance to such contexts.
