Yemen’s Unconditional Cash Transfer (UCT) program, supported by UNICEF, SFD, and the World Bank is the largest cash transfer initiative in the country covering 1.3 million households (29% of the population). The program has been in place since 2016 and until recently payments were made in cash. UCT recently piloted digital payments in 8 districts, facilitated by UNICEF and the Social Fund for Development, benefiting 45,460 recipients. The pilot is being scaled up and emphasizes payments into fully functional accounts along with recipient choice.
This webinar, hosted by the World Bank’s G2Px Initiative, will delve into the experience with piloting digital payments under the Unified Cash Transfer program in Yemen. In this session, we will hear about the lessons learned from pilot so far, the impact of digital payments in a fragile context and plans for scaling up digital payments under the program going forward.
