Community and Local Development in Fragile, Conflict and Violence Contexts

The first virtual roundtable of the AFW South-to-South Learning Exchange platform on Community Local Development (CLD) took place on 22nd November 2022.  

Over 100 participants joined the event from 8 countries in Central and West Africa : Mali, Niger, Chad, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire, and Senegal. Thus, the event brought together staff members of partner PIUs as well as internal bank staff to discuss and share experiences on CLD in FCV contexts.

Susan Wong, Lead Social Development Specialist at the World Bank, shared a captivating experience in Afghanistan on "Partnering with Communities to Deliver Change". The presentation was followed by panel discussions with PIUs’ members from Mali, Niger, Cameroon and Burkina Faso, moderated by Nicolas Perrin, the Lead Social Development Specialist, Social Sustainability and Inclusion for West Africa.

The panelists shared opportunities challenges and learning around CLD projects implementation, impact and sustainability in FCV contexts.

The next virtual roundtable will be convened in the first quarter of 2023 and will focus on "Social Cohesion".
