The World Bank Treasury invites you to the following report launch event on Tuesday, November 8th, 2022 between 8:00 am - 9:30 am (EST):

Sovereign Green, Social and Sustainability Bonds: Unlocking the Potential in Emerging Markets”, a new World Bank report based on surveys of emerging market debt management offices and investors.

In 2021, emerging market issuers issued USD182 billion in green, social and sustainability or sustainability-linked bonds, more than triple the amount issued in 2020. The share of green, social and sustainability bonds issued by emerging market governments has grown in recent years, with 18 of the 40 sovereign borrowers, as of September 2022, coming from low and middle-income countries.

This report, published by the World Bank Treasury Sustainable Finance and ESG Advisory, identifies knowledge and capacity gaps that must be addressed to improve the quality of transactions and maximize investor interest, as well as financial, environmental and social outcomes. The findings provide lessons for new  issuers to help them understand the opportunities to mobilize private capital to finance climate action, promote just transition, and meet Sustainable Development Goals.
