CALL FOR PROPOSALS !

We invite women artists - individual or a group - to submit artistic proposals for creating unique mural, wall art or wall installation at the World Bank Office in Nepal. The intent of this competition is to champion creativity and provide a platform for local women artists to showcase their talent. It will also enhance the connection between the arts community and the development community, while encouraging creative promotion of various development themes. Finally, the display of the works in the World Bank’s Nepal office will provide an outlet to artists to showcase their work to the many visitors that frequent the office.

  • Theme

    The submissions for the Women’s Art Initiative should focus on an aspect of gender, equality and social inclusion, such as a focus on women empowerment through participation in politics or the workforce, or women tackling issues of discrimination or Gender Based Violence. The proposals should include adequate explanation of the relationship between the work and the chosen theme.

     

    Proposal Requirements

    Each entrant must submit only one proposal that includes:

    ·  Short profile or biography of the artist or group submitting the entry. 

    ·  Contact details including name, phone and email address of the lead contact.

    ·  Concept sketches/design in a format that best illustrates how the mural/work will look on the wall - sizes listed below.

    ·  Concept interpretation- explanatory text that describes the relationship with the theme.

    ·  Details of materials required- amounts, sources etc.

     

    Site Specification and Ownership Rights

    The winning designs will be painted on walls with areas which vary from 8ft”x 14ft” to 10ft”x 21ft”. The works will be displayed on an ongoing basis in the World Bank office and as such will become the property of the World Bank. The World Bank will be granted rights to use images of the work for the promotion of the Arts initiative. All other rights related to use of the images of the works remain with the artists.

     

    Selection and Review

    The proposals will be juried by a selection committee who will pick six winners on the basis of:

    a) Originality and artistic merit of the work

    b) Suitability of the artwork relative to the site and

    c) Ability to visually translate the development theme through the mural.

     

    Award Information

    The six awarded entries will be given: a) an opportunity to paint their winning design on the wall (all supplies will be provided) b) $1000 cash prize

    Associated travel and accommodation costs will be covered as per the Bank’s Policy for awardees who live outside Kathmandu.

    It is envisaged that an event will be held to launch the initiative and invite an audience in to see the works.

     

    Eligibility 

    This competition is open to women artists only. Women with disabilities and from indigenous or minority groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Transgender women are also eligible and encouraged to apply.

     

    Deadline

    The call will be open until February 10, 2020 (extended from January 27, 2020). Any work submitted after the deadline will not be taken into consideration. Please send your proposal as attachments to infonepal@worldbank.org. It can also be dropped at the reception of World Bank Office, Yak and Yeti Complex, Durbarmarg, Kathmandu. Please clearly mark “Proposal for World Bank’s Art Initiative” on the envelope/subject of the email.
