On the occasion of the 15th session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Peoples, the World Bank Group and the United States Permanent Mission to the UN will be co-hosting two events on May 11, 2016.
The first is a presentation of a report by the World Bank, Indigenous Latin America in the Twenty-First Century, which shines new light on the situation of Indigenous Peoples across Latin America. The publication finds that despite important advances, Indigenous communities in the region are disproportionately affected by poverty, and continue to face widespread economic and social exclusion.
The second is the Symposium on Indigenous Peoples’ Sustainable Development, which will showcase successful initiatives and good practices from climate-related projects that effectively involve Indigenous Peoples in sustainable development and climate initiatives.
