A delegation of seven German MPs from the Parliamentary Committee for Economic Cooperation and Development (AwZ), including its Chairperson, Dagmar Woehrl, visited the World Bank supported Ta Thanh Oai primary school in Hanoi. The school is part of the Global Partnership for Education - Vietnam Escuela Nueva project (GPE-VNEN), which targets the most disadvantaged primary students, introducing new teaching and learning practices. A US$ 84.6M GPE grant supports the project’s implementation in 20 priority provinces in Vietnam. The MPs, accompanied by the German Ambassador to Vietnam, had an opportunity to observe a Grade 3 class and interact with students; later the delegation met with teachers and school administrators and representatives of the Ministry of Education to learn more about the VNEN project. The World Bank is the Trustee of the GPE Fund and serves as the supervising entity for the majority of allocations provided to GPE partner countries. Germany has been a valued donor partner of the GPE since 2005.
