German celebrities visit World Bank project in Uganda
German celebrities Rea Garvey, Tim Mälzer und Minh-Khai Phan-Thi visit World Bank project in Uganda.
July 3, 2013Uganda

The trip was organized by the German branch of ONE and aimed to demonstrate via various project visits throughout the country that it is possible to end extreme poverty within our lifetime. In this context, it featured a visit to the IDA-supported Ugandan trading business Flona Commodities, which buys fresh fruit from Ugandan farmers and processes, dries and packages them for export to markets such as Europe and Japan. The celebrity group further visited an associated pineapple farm that sells its pineapples locally to Flona Commodities as well as exports them in raw form to Kenya and South Sudan. Flona Commodities is run by Stephen Isiko and his wife, processes about 9 tons of dried fruit per year and employs over 50 people.
