Launch of Public Consultations
The World Bank Group has started the preparation of the Systematic Country Diagnostic (SCD) for Myanmar. To make it relevant in highlighting pathways to achieving poverty reduction and shared prosperity, we welcome views and contributions from civil society organizations, the academic community, think tanks, the private sector and citizens.
What is a Systematic Country Diagnostic?
The SCD is an assessment of the constraints a country faces and the opportunities it can embrace to accelerate progress in reducing poverty and achieving higher living standards for its people.
The SCD draws upon all available evidence, including findings from research both by the World Bank Group and other international and domestic partners, and incorporates feedback received during online and face to face consultations.
The purpose of the SCD is to inform the Country Partnership Framework (CPF), which is a strategic document that sets priority areas for the World Bank Group’s engagement in a country. The new CPF for Myanmar will guide the World Bank Group's work over the coming four years (2019-2022).
What are the World Bank Group goals?
- End extreme poverty: reduce the percentage of people living on less than USD 1.9 a day to 3 percent by 2030.
- Promote shared prosperity: foster income growth for the bottom 40 percent of the population in every country.
The World Bank Group is committed to pursuing these two goals in a way that is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable.
What is the timeline of the public consultations?
To inform the SCD, the World Bank Group will undertake public consultations to discuss the most binding constraints that Myanmar faces in achieving the twin goals of extreme poverty reduction and shared prosperity, and the main opportunities it can embrace in doing so.
Consultations will take place from January 25, 2019 - February 6, 2019.
The SCD team will meet with a wide range of stakeholders, including government counterparts (national and sub-national), development partners, private sector representatives, and civil society.
In addition to face-to-face consultations, online avenues will allow people to submit questions and comments.
