Syed Rashed Al-Zayed


Syed Rashed Al-Zayed (Josh) is a Senior Economist for the World Bank’s Human Development Global Practice based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has been with the World Bank for more than a decade and is responsible for leading, designing and implementation of large and complex projects and programs in the education sector. He is currently leading the Reaching Out-of-Schools Children (ROSCII) project in Bangladesh along with education support for the Displaced Rohingya Population in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. Syed’s key expertise includes client orientation, policy dialogue and advocacy. He has led groups of development partners and World Bank teams in high level policy dialogues with governments and other stakeholders on critical issues.

Syed has so far worked on Bangladesh, India, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Tanzania and Bhutan. Among his many publications include key reports and policy notes on issues such as education access, gender aspect to education opportunity and outcomes, citizen engagement, public financing in education, jobs, technical education and impact assessment.

Syed studied Economics in Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh and Australian National University, Australia.
