Joel Turkewitz

Lead Public Sector Specialist

Joel Turkewitz is a Lead Public Sector Specialist in the Public Integrity and Openness Directorate in the Governance Global Practice. He works with the Director on defining and developing programs of work relating to anti-corruption and procurement reform. He co-leads the Data Analytics in Public Procurement program, and co-leads the WBG’s efforts on Illicit Financial Flows.

In his almost 30 year career, he has worked on a variety of issues relating to public sector performance and the relationship between state and non-state parties. He has served as the Program Hub Coordinator for the World Bank’s Regional Governance Hub in Bangkok and as the South Asia Regional Procurement Reform Coordinator for New Delhi, India. Prior to joining the Bank in 2000, Mr. Turkewitz was associated with the University of Texas School of Law and the Central European University. He has taught graduate school courses in departments of economics, law, and political science, and has written on a range of topics relating to the manner in which the public and private sectors interact and improving public sector performance.

Mr. Turkewitz holds a law degree from Columbia University School of Law and a BA from Wesleyan University.
