Revamped World Bank Gender Data Portal

The World Bank has launched its newly revamped World Bank Gender Data Portal as part of the year-long World Bank #AccelerateEquality campaign. This is also part of the World Bank’s broader commitment and expansion of partnerships to improve the collection, access, sharing, and use of sex-disaggregated data.

This Portal has been a comprehensive source for the latest sex-disaggregated and gender statistics providing open access to over 900 indicators compiled from officially recognized international sources covering demography, education, health, economic activities, assets, leadership, gender-based violence, and more. With the revamp of the Portal, it is now easier for technical and non-technical users to access and explore the data through better, more user-friendly navigation of the Portal, interactive data visualizations, and narratives that convey gender progress and gaps in a deeper and more meaningful way.

Some major highlights of the revamped Portal include:

·       Improved overall layout, aesthetics, search function and better navigation through new user-friendly topics.

·       A new indicator visualization tool (ex. labor force participation) that makes it easy to explore, download, and share the data and multiple custom visualizations so users can add them directly into presentations and reports.

·       New country and region profiles with narrative content that provide a snapshot of a country or region’s performance on key indicators.

·       New data stories that highlight insights from the data in the database and inclusion of free resources on data literacy and gender data communications.
