The Paris Agreement allows for increased flexibility for countries to determine their mitigation targets in the form of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs); recognizing countries’ differing needs and circumstances. Article 6 of the Paris Agreement recognizes that countries may voluntarily cooperate with each other to deliver on their NDCs in an effort to raise ambition. Botswana’s updated NDC <https://unfccc.int/sites/default/files/2024-12/BOTSWANA_NDC_2%2520REPORT.pdf>  reaffirms its ambitious commitment to reduce fifteen percent (15%) of its GHG emissions by 2030 relative to business as usual (BAU) with a focus on energy; transport; industry and agriculture; forests; and other land use (AFOLU) sectors. The World Bank seeks to engage an experienced consultancy firm to support the Ministry of Environment and Tourism in preparing for and participating in international carbon markets. The objective of this assignment is to support the development of a policy framework for Botswana’s participation in carbon markets.
