The objectives of this analytical study are to assess the conceptual role for hybridization of hydropower with VRE to support continuous electricity supply and stable operation of the national power system. In addition; the analytical will seek to identify and quantify the costs; benefits and value that enhance energy security; climate resilience and facilitate a low carbon transition in the country. The key questions to address in the study are what role and value of hybridization of hydropower has in the context of the broader power system. Should it be considered an energy generation plant or an energy service facility tailored to meeting the demands of the power system ensuring security of supply and preventing rolling black outs? In this context; energy services for a hybrid under consideration are: *       Energy Control: How a hybrid facility is able to balance shifts in demand originating from the power system in the short-term perspective (sub-second to minutes) with the objective of maintaining power and quality balance (ancillary services; frequency; voltage; inertia; spinning reserve; etc.).*       Energy Storage: How a hybrid and storage technologies are able to deliver short and long-term power quality and energy balance.*       Energy Generation: How a hybrid can contribute to short- and long-term energy balance with a particular focus on balancing seasonality and variability in renewable energy sources with energy storage capacity. The outcome of this study is to circulate findings to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) for potential inclusion in the PDP8 implementation plan.
