The World Bank East Africa Transport wishes to hire a firm with extensive capability and experience with analysis and simulation of energy requirements for rail operations in urban and commuter rail settings. The main objective of this assignment is to assess the technical and financial viability of the electric battery and hybrid options for the commuter rail rolling stock in the Nairobi Metropolitan area; Kenya and prepare recommendations on a functional specification of the trainset and any required charging facilities. The findings and recommendations of this assessment will inform possible future investment on trainsets and any required charging facilities under Kenya Urban Mobility Improvement Project to support Kenya Railways (KR) in advancing green solutions for the commuter rail operation.
