The Client is the largest animal protein producer in Zambia and one of the largest in Africa. The company’s operations are vertically integrated and include livestock farms; crop farms; animal feed facilities; slaughterhouses as well as own distribution and logistics chains for beef; chicken; pork; eggs; dairy products and feed. The Client has conducted a pre-feasibility study on a manure-to-biochar pyrolysis plant. The results of the pre-feasibility study were positive and therefore the Client is planning to conduct a bankable feasibility study on the manure-to-biochar plant (the Project). The Client has identified a site for the pyrolysis plant (the Complex) which includes a beef feedlot; poultry broiler houses; cropping fields; a beef abattoir and a poultry abattoir. The plant will take beef and poultry manure as feedstock to produce biochar which can either be used by the Client as an alternative to fertilizer on cropping fields; or sold to third parties. In addition; the pyrolysis plant will have the potential to generate electricity for the Complex. The plant is expected to produce about 7;000 tons of biochar per year. IFC is seeking to procure the services of the Consultant to execute the Project. The objectives; scope of work; timeline and deliverables are outlined below.
