The World Bank is seeking expression of interest from a web design and development firm with expertise in building data-centric web applications. The firm must have specialized experience in the presentation of online products that visualize and present complex data, including the use of charts and maps.

The Gender Data Portal is the World Bank Group’s (WBG) comprehensive source for historical and current data broken down by sex. This data site provides open access to over 600 indicators compiled from officially-recognized international sources with several data visualizations and data exploration tools.  The World Bank seeks to improve the Gender Data Portal by enhancing the site’s accessibility and usability, as well as by making data and other content more digestible and appealing to a wider audience through storytelling and visualization.  

The purpose of this contract is to hire an agency with both website design skills and deep front-end and back-end technology know-how to build a Gender Data Portal that will provide a web experience that better serves key audiences (research community, CSOs, media, and policymakers) by creating content, tools, and features targeted for each audience. The site is expected to be developed without the use of tools like Drupal, Wordpress, AEM, etc. and will ideally be hosted in World Bank preferred platforms like AWS or Azure.

The objectives for the Gender Data Portal are as follows:

  • enhance the user-friendliness and navigability of the Portal allowing visitors to easily find what they are seeking, especially through an enhanced search function 
  • implement a data visualization tool allowing visitors to explore indicators and countries  
  • incorporate data story telling features that uses both narrative content pages and built-in interactive data visualizations 
  • improve the discoverability/visibility of the Portal 
  • improve the aesthetics and layout of the Portal  
  • implement social sharing widgets for wider dissemination of the Gender Data Portal content 

The firm will be responsible for all stages of workflow to develop and maintain the Gender Data Portal.

Note: RFP shall be launched to those who have already expressed interest on 17th November 2020. Offerors who would be sending their interest after that also be sent the RFP document but they would get lesser timeline.

The WBG reserves the right to publicly disclose contract award information, including but not limited to, name of company receiving the award, brief description of services, and contract award amount, for any contract award valued over US$250,000.  Offeror's proposal and contractual documents will remain confidential and therefore not subject to disclosure. 

The World Bank reserves the right to reject any or all responses without recourse.
