Presentation and Discussion of the WDR 2014 at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)

BMZ Director General, Uta Boellhoff, made an introductory address to open the event, which was followed by a presentation by Norman Loayza, World Bank Director of WDR 2014, on conclusions of the report for the World Bank Group and broader donor community, particularly as they pertain to sustainable development and addressing climate change.

On December 2, 2013, a presentation and discussion of the recently released 2014 World Development Report (WDR) “Risk and Opportunity: Managing Risk for Development” took place at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in Berlin.  BMZ Director General, Uta Boellhoff, made an introductory address to open the event, which was followed by a presentation by Norman Loayza, World Bank Director of WDR 2014, on conclusions of the report for the World Bank Group and broader donor community, particularly as they pertain to sustainable development and addressing climate change.  After his presentation, Mr. Loayza participated in a moderated panel discussion with Joanne Linnerooth-Bayer, Program Leader for Risk Policy and Vulnerability at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) and Executive Board Member of the Munich Climate Insurance Initiative (MCII); Michael Jakob, a Fellow at the Mecator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC); and Juergen Zattler, Head of the European and Multilateral Cooperation Division at BMZ. Approximately 50 people, including BMZ and GIZ staff, and representatives from civil society organizations, research institutes and academia attended the event.
