I am over 32 years of age and enrolled in a Ph.D. program. Can I still apply?

No, the age limit for all participants of the Africa Fellowship Program is 32 years of age.

Why is the WBG Africa Fellowship age limit 32-years-old?

While the fellowship program is designed to provide an opportunity for sub-Saharan African nationals to get valuable, real world development experience and increase diversity throughout the World Bank Group, it can also be a stepping stone into the World Bank Group’s Young Professionals Program (YPP). To be eligible for the YPP, a competitive starting point for a career at the WBG, applicants must be 32 years of age or younger, had at least three years of relevant professional experience related to development, or continued academic study at the doctoral level. By aligning the fellowship criteria with that of the YPP, fellows are in a unique position to continue their careers at the World Bank through the Young Professionals Program.

I just earned my Ph.D. Can I apply?

Yes. Candidates who already have a Ph.D. can apply, provided they meet the age requirement.

I have a Master’s degree and/or an MBA, but am not enrolled in a Ph.D. program and don’t yet have a Ph.D. Will I be considered?

No. The current program is for Ph.D. candidates and Ph.D. holders only.

Do I have to be fluent in English to apply?

Yes. Fellows are expected to work in English, so the ability to speak and write fluently is a requirement.

If I was a previous WBG fellow, am I eligible to reapply?

No, previous fellows are not eligible to apply. However, previous applicants who were not selected as fellows are encouraged to reapply if you still meet program requirements.
