00:08 When I think of the Japan Social Development Fund,
00:11 two key features come to mind.
00:13 First,
00:14 it is designed with and managed by communities.
00:17 This is important
00:19 because early engagement often translates
00:22 into better buy-in,
00:23 more precise targeting of those who most need support,
00:27 more effective knowledge transfer,
00:29 and increased sustainability.
00:32 In many cases,
00:33 JSDF awards grants directly to local organizations
00:38 that work closely with vulnerable groups.
00:41 Second,
00:42 the Japan Social Development Fund
00:44 focuses on innovation.
00:47 It pilots new approaches,
00:49 sparking creative thinking
00:51 and empowering communities
00:52 to take the lead in solving problems.
00:55 GSTF projects are flexible and they're adaptable.
00:59 With these small grants,
01:01 our implementing partners can test out their ideas,
01:04 can refine them
01:06 with inputs from communities.
01:09 GSTF pilots are also built to be forward looking
01:13 and so development solutions are often picked up by larger projects.
01:18 These could be funded by the government,
01:20 by the World Bank,
01:21 or other partners.
01:23 The focus on community-driven
01:27 and innovative projects is what makes JSDF
01:31 unique,
01:31 relevant,
01:32 and sustainable
01:34 25 years on.
01:36 Japan Social Development Fund
01:38 was established to reach the poorest and most vulnerable people directly.
01:43 We wanted to change people's lives,
01:46 to help them when crisis hit.
01:49 And we wanted to bring about transformative change
01:52 to make them
01:53 more resilient when times get rough.
01:56 To do so,
01:57 we have invested in health,
02:00 childcare,
02:00 nutrition,
02:02 education,
02:03 small business development and job creation,
02:06 governance,
02:07 and sustainable agriculture.
02:09 Happy
02:10 25th anniversary.
