The World Bank helped Bangladesh to tackle the pandemic within 3 weeks of detection of the first case. It helped the country to ramp up testing and treatment as well as strengthen the public health system. It also supported the national vaccination program. It helped Bangladesh to vaccinate nearly 50% of the eligible population with 68 million doses of vaccines. Today, the project continues to support systems for better preparedness for future pandemics including setting up of ICUs throughout the country.
