videoDescription
Launch Event on Roadmap to Fiscal Sustainability as part of the Pakistan Federal Expenditure Review 2023.
description
Pakistan’s general government deficit in Fiscal Year 2022 was the highest recorded in over two decades. Large and growing levels of fiscal deficits and public debt contribute to macroeconomic volatility, crowding out public and private investment, and negatively impacting long-term economic growth. The latest Pakistan Federal Public Expenditure Review (PER) from the World Bank reports on key drivers of Pakistan’s fiscal deficits – and ways for the government to regain fiscal and debt sustainability. The World Bank and Tabadlab are hosting a panel with the authors of the report to discuss these questions and unpack the findings and recommendations from the PER. Panellists: 1. Qurat ul Ain Hadi - Governance Specialist, The World Bank 2. Adnan Ashraf Ghumman - Senior Economist, The World Bank 3. Florian Blum - Senior Economist, The World Bank 4. Derek Chen - Senior Economist, The World Bank Moderated by Zeeshan Salahuddin, Director at Tabadlab’s Centre for Global and Regional Connectivity.
