Mashreq countries have been through a very difficult year, not just with COVID-19 challenges, but other types of economic and social challenges. World Bank MENA Vice President Ferid Belhaj recently led a high-level visit to Iraq, Jordan, and Lebanon from June 1 – June 12, 2021, which was his first trip to these countries since the start of the pandemic. He reaffirmed World Bank support and its commitment to ambitious social safety net programs and projects to help people cope with the impact of COVID-19, while also looking to the future to help the region create more jobs for young people, expand and strengthen economic opportunities for women, and tackle tackling climate-change challenges for a resilient economic recovery.
