Closing Gender Gaps in Georgia – Nino Zambakhidze, Farmer

In Georgia, around 40% of female workers are employed in agriculture. However, gender stereotype-related challenges persist when it comes to women taking up leadership positions in this sector. Nino Zambakhidze has seen her share of obstacles at every step of the way from starting her own farming business to becoming the Chairperson of the Georgian Farmers’ Association. Today she is spearheading the digitalization of the agriculture sector with an app that connects individual farmers with distributors – a tool developed with support from the World Bank’s Georgia National Innovation Ecosystem (GENIE) project, which became invaluable for maintaining livelihoods of entire households during the pandemic.
