When Haja Fatima lost both her husband and eldest son, she was forced to take over the family farm and try to eke out a living for herself and her 6 other children – an almost impossible challenge in conflict-ridden Yemen. Through the Small and Micro Enterprise Promotion Service (SMEPS) and the World Bank’s Emergency Crisis Response Project, Fatimah was able to receive a grant that allowed her to boost her production and her income. This project helping many Yemenis is also carried out with the UNDP.
