Digital Solutions Help Preserve Roads in the Kyrgyz Republic

For the first time in the Kyrgyz Republic, automated weigh-in-motion technologies were introduced on a pilot basis along two major international corridors to detect vehicle overloading. Addressing vehicle overloading will not only help to prevent damage to roads but also improve traffic safety. Since the introduction of this automated system as part of the Taza Koom program collection rates at weigh stations have more than doubled, according to the Minister of Transport and Roads of the Kyrgyz Republic. The pilots of the weigh-in-motion systems are being financed by the on-going Bank-supported Central Asia Road Links Project.
