The world’s more slowly growing and graying population is embarking on a series of transitions that will affect economic growth for decades, the WB/IMF’s Global Monitoring Report 2015/2016: Development in an Era of Demographic Change says. World Bank Chief Economist Kaushik Basu says the world is at the cusp of a major demographic transition that will affect countries along the development spectrum very differently. With the right policies – at the country level and internationally – the demographic changes upon us present one of the most consequential development opportunities of our times.
