Indonesia: A trash picker hopes for a better life for her son

Murti earns a living as a scavenger in Jakarta to help her son go to school. She has received social assistance through cash transfers from the government, but mentioned that other social assistance programs need to be improved. Half of all Indonesians are highly vulnerable to shocks which can drive them into poverty. Recent World Bank assessments of social assistance programs try to help improve and expand them.
