WASHINGTON, April 11, 2023 – Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Mwigulu Nchemba, Minister for Finance and Planning of Tanzania

President Malpass and Minister Nchemba discussed the outlook for developing countries as they face slow growth, high inflation, rising interest rates, and the impacts of climate change.  President Malpass recognized Tanzania’s strong performance that has helped the country to maintain macroeconomic stability and reaffirmed the World Bank Group’s support for key aspects of government’s reform agenda, including efforts to build a private sector enabling environment, education, jobs, and climate change adaptation. President Malpass also underscored the successful frontloading of IDA20 resources and encouraged the government to swiftly implement existing projects.

President Malpass conveyed to Minister Nchemba the World Bank’s appreciation to Tanzania for hosting two important events this year: the Africa Human Capital Summit 2023 in July that will focus on prioritizing human capital, and the IDA20 Midterm Review in December that will convene IDA Deputies and IDA Borrower Representatives.
