NIAMEY, March 30, 2023 – Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with President Mohamed Bazoum of Niger.
President Malpass commended Niger for its resilience in the face of regional instability, and noted the World Bank Group’s support to Niger, including under the IDA20 Prevention and Resilience Allocation.
President Malpass and President Bazoum spoke about Niger’s demographics and rapidly increasing education needs, particularly for girls.
President Malpass and President Bazoum also discussed the importance of international commerce, trade facilitation, and trade finance. President Malpass underscored the importance of transparency of contracts and competitive bidding processes for private sector development and growth.
President Malpass and President Bazoum discussed the strength of collaboration between Niger and the World Bank Group, reflected in a rapidly growing portfolio reaching US$4.67 billion in World Bank investments in 2023.
