Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with Masato Kanda, Deputy Minister of Finance, Japan

WASHINGTON, December 2 – Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Masato Kanda, Japanese Deputy Minister of Finance.

President Malpass and Minister Kanda discussed Japan’s 2023 G7 Presidency, the ongoing close collaboration between the World Bank Group (WBG) and Japan, including on support for Ukraine, work to strengthen FDI, universal health care, pandemic response financing, and increasing debt sustainability and transparency.

President Malpass was glad to hear Minister Kanda’s views on the WBG’s upcoming Evolution Roadmap paper and thanked Minister Kanda for Japan’s strong continued support for the WBG’s efforts to help developing countries. President Malpass thanked Minister Kanda for Japan’s support for the WBG as it works to respond to the most urgent global needs, especially with regards to global public goods.

President Malpass and Minister Kanda also held productive talks on WBG country-level engagements, including in Sri Lanka and Ukraine.
