Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with Sigrid Kaag, Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands and Liesje Schreinemacher, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Netherlands

WASHINGTON, October 14, 2022  - Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Sigrid Kaag, Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands and Liesje Schreinemacher, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Netherlands.

President Malpass expressed his gratitude to Deputy Prime Minister Kaag and Minister Schreinemacher for the Netherlands’ support for the World Bank Group’s (WBG) Financing of Recovery from Economic Emergency in Ukraine (FREE Ukraine) package. President Malpass and Minister Schreinemacher discussed the importance of global effort and coordination to support Ukraine to address both short and longer-term needs.

President Malpass, Deputy Prime Minister Kaag and Minister Schreinemacher also discussed the importance of efforts to address the impact of climate change. President Malpass shared the WBG’s significantly increased climate finance and the central role of new diagnostics Climate Change and Development Reports (CCDRs) to help countries prioritize the most impactful actions that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and boost adaptation, while delivering on broader development goals.

President Malpass highlighted to Deputy Prime Minister Kaag and Minister Schreinemacher the World Bank’s upcoming proposed Scaling Climate Action by Lowering Emissions (SCALE) fund, that will pool funding from the global community and provide grant payments to developing countries for achieving verified emissions reductions.
