WASHINGTON, October 11, 2022—Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Finance Minister Jose Antonio Ocampo of Colombia.
President Malpass and Minister Ocampo discussed Colombia’s strong and sustained economic recovery, the role of fiscal discipline, and Colombia's jump in export revenues to Europe from oil, coal and coking coal.
President Malpass reinforced the World Bank Group´s (WBG) commitment to support Colombia’s plans on rainforest protection and green energy transition. President Malpass emphasized the WBG’s focus on strong support to reverse the rapid deforestation trend that Colombia’s rainforests have been enduring, notably in the Amazon.
President Malpass and Minister Ocampo also discussed trade, Venezuela, rural development, and ways to improve economic opportunities for vast, conflict-affected rural areas of the country.
