Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita of Moldova

WASHINGTON, July 18, 2022 – Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita of Moldova.

President Malpass and Prime Minister Gavrilita discussed the impacts of the war in Ukraine on Moldova. President Malpass affirmed to Prime Minister Gavrilita the World Bank Group’s (WBG) strong support for Moldova as it works to address the impacts of the war, the increase in natural gas prices, and the ongoing refugee crisis.

President Malpass highlighted to Prime Minister Gavrilita the WBG’s close cooperation with Moldova on energy and transport infrastructure, especially related to logistics for natural gas and agricultural products as key inputs for Moldova’s economy.

President Malpass and Prime Minister Gavrilita also held good talks on the ongoing positive cooperation between the WBG and Moldova on the country’s upcoming Country Partnership Framework (CPF). President Malpass and Prime Minister Gavrilita discussed the ongoing work to strengthen social assistance targeting for the people of Moldova, continue reforms, and invest in the health and education sectors.
