WASHINGTON, June 8, 2022 – This morning, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with President Ignacio Cassis of the Swiss Confederation.
President Malpass and President Cassis discussed the war in Ukraine, its effects on broader global development, the path toward recovery, and World Bank Group (WBG) efforts. President Malpass complemented President Cassis on Switzerland’s hosting the upcoming Ukraine Recovery Conference in Lugano, and they discussed with their teams the coordination efforts for the conference. President Malpass raised the importance of reforms to enable the business environment and new investment, provide transparency in currency stability and debt service, and avoid the monetization of fiscal deficits.
President Malpass congratulated President Cassis on Switzerland’s 30th anniversary of joining the WBG and reaffirmed the strong ties between Switzerland and the WBG. President Malpass thanked President Cassis for Switzerland’s strong support for IDA20 and was pleased to share his positive impressions from recent travel to Zurich and Bern.
