WASHINGTON, April 23— Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Jamshid Kuchkarov, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister Of Economic Development & Poverty Reduction, and World Bank Group (WBG) Governor for the Republic of Uzbekistan.
President Malpass reaffirmed to Deputy Prime Minister Kuchkarov WBG support for Uzbekistan and thanked him for collaborative efforts toward a new Country Partnership Framework (CPF).
President Malpass and Deputy Prime Minister Kuchkarov exchanged views on the impact of the war in Ukraine on Uzbekistan and the region through remittances and trade flows.
President Malpass welcomed Uzbekistan’s good progress on structural reforms and economic transformation and was glad to hear about the increasing role of the private sector in the economy, including in energy and fertilizer production. President Malpass emphasized the urgency of further steps to improve the business environment, human capital and regulatory framework for the energy sector.
