WASHINGTON, April 21 – Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki of Japan.
President Malpass expressed his gratitude to Minister Suzuki for Japan’s strong leadership on IDA20 and thanked him for his strong support in the National Diet. President Malpass also thanked Minister Suzuki for Japan’s increased support for the World Bank Group’s (WBG) efforts toward supporting the people of Ukraine as they address the impacts of the Russian invasion.
President Malpass was glad to hear Minister Suzuki’s thoughts on global health, especially in regard to pandemic preparedness, and noted the WBG’s good collaboration with Japan across the World Bank, IFC, and MIGA. President Malpass and Minister Suzuki discussed the WBG’s efforts on disaster risk management (DRM).
President Malpass and Minister Suzuki also held a good exchange of views on the importance of debt transparency, good governance, and the rule of law.
