Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia

WASHINGTON, September 23, 2021—This evening, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia.

President Malpass and Prime Minister Morrison discussed support for Indo-Pacific countries in their response to COVID-19, particularly accelerating vaccine access. They also discussed efforts toward economic growth, prosperity, and stability throughout the region, and climate actions on mitigation, transition, adaptation, and technological advances.

President Malpass and Prime Minister Morrison exchanged views on the importance of broad participation in debt relief and transparency efforts in coordination with the G20 and IMF.

President Malpass highlighted the importance of IDA to provide the concessional financing and grants that the poorest countries need to recover from COVID-19. An ambitious and successful IDA20 replenishment will be critical to benefit Small States and support preparedness.
