Readout from World Bank Group President David Malpass’s Meeting with Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Gerd Müller of Germany

BERLIN, August 26, 2021 –  Today, World Bank Group President David Malpass met with Gerd Müller, German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development and Germany’s Governor of the World Bank Group.

President Malpass updated Minister Müller on the World Bank Group’s COVID-19 pandemic response and vaccine financing. President Malpass and Minister Müller discussed the challenges of inequality, including COVID-19 vaccine supply shortages for delivery to developing countries.

President Malpass and Minister Müller discussed climate, agriculture, biodiversity, and fair production. President Malpass highlighted the World Bank Group’s Climate Change Action Plan for 2021-2025 and its goals to help developing countries integrate climate and development policies and to deploy climate finance in ways that achieve the most results in terms of mitigation and adaptation.

President Malpass and Minister Müller also discussed the importance of comprehensive debt solutions that include the private sector. President Malpass highlighted the importance of preparedness and providing large net positive flows to the world’s poorest countries, and to that end, appreciated Germany’s support for a strong IDA20 replenishment at the end of this year.
