World Bank Group President David Malpass to Visit Morocco

RABAT, March 22, 2022— World Bank Group President David Malpass will arrive in Casablanca and Rabat on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, for a two-day visit. This will be Mr. Malpass’ first trip to Morocco as World Bank Group President. The visit reaffirms the World Bank Group’s commitment to partnering with Morocco for better development outcomes for all of its citizens.

“The Kingdom of Morocco is a longstanding World Bank Group partner, and we are glad to support their efforts toward achieving substantive development reforms” said World Bank Group President David Malpass. “The Kingdom’s efforts toward bettering development outcomes across the region are commendable, and I look forward to their hosting next year’s 2023 World Bank Group-International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings.”

David Malpass will meet with several senior officials. He will also meet with private sector representatives.

Joining Mr. Malpass on his visit will be Ferid Belhaj, World Bank Vice President for Middle East and North Africa, Jesko Hentschel, World Bank Director for the Maghreb and Malta and Xavier Reille, IFC Country Manager for the Maghreb.

The World Bank’s active portfolio in Morocco comprises of 20 International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) projects totaling $5.2 billion. This last fiscal year, the World Bank had record lending of $1.8 billion, one of the largest programs. In the calendar year of 2021, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) invested $447 million.
