On this Women’s Day 2021, the Sint Maarten Recovery, Reconstruction, and Resilience Trust Fund is celebrating all the strong women supporting the community in Sint Maarten. We spoke to a few women who are working for or benefiting from Trust Fund projects to find out more about what they do and what advice they would give the next generation.

Many thanks to Maria Martin, bus driver for the Helping Hands Foundation, Shannon Bell, Environmental Social Health and Safety Field Officer for Build Change, Ursel Biabiany, activity manager for the home repair program at the National Recovery Program Bureau, and Shirley Bruce, owner of Kenny’s Car Rentals for sharing their stories.

You can find out more about the Trust Fund projects behind these stories here:

·       Resources 4 Community Resilience Project, which is helping local NGOs like the Helping Hands Foundation with small grants

·       Emergency Income Support and Training Project, which provided income support and vocational training to workers like Shannon in Sint Maarten

·       Emergency Repair Project, which is repairing houses, shelters, schools, and public buildings

·       Enterprise Support Project, which is improving access to finance for local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, like Kenny’s Car Rentals

Happy Women’s Day Sint Maarten!
