World Bank Water at COP27: Sustainable Water Storage and River Basin Management for Resilience

Today, most countries are placing unprecedented pressure on water resources, and water scarcity affects more than 40% of the global population. The World Bank helps client counties to ensure sustainability of water use, build climate resilience, and strengthen integrated management. Water storage is a key part of responding to increased water demands across all uses, and especially in responding to the impacts of climate change. This session will first present the World Bank’s upcoming report on storage: What the Future has in Store: A New Paradigm for Climate-Resilient Water Storage, intended to assist client countries with decision making to address key water resources challenges and improve water storage systems—looking at a broad spectrum of storage and retention solutions employed to ensure water security, ranging from soft solutions to hard infrastructure. This will be followed by short presentations on storage and water resources management from across the globe.
