DIME EVENT: R for Advanced Stata Users

  • R is a programming language and software environment for statistical analysis. It is a powerful and flexible tool widely used among statisticians and data scientists, and has a growing user base in economics research. This course is designed to familiarize participants with the language, focusing on common tasks and analysis in development research. By the end of the course, participants should be able to perform basic data cleaning and analysis in R. 

    Description: This class will be an introduction to R programming, designed specifically for Stata users. It highlights the differences between the two software, gives examples of different uses of R for Stata users and introduces syntax. Through hands-on exercises, participants will learn:

    • RStudio interface
    • How to write and run scripts
    • Object-oriented languages
    • R objects
    • Types of data
    • How to get help

    Prerequisites: Intermediate Stata (comfortable using macros)

    The course will be delivered in 6 sessions, one per week. The first session is Introduction to R: R programming for Stata users. It highlights the differences between the two softwares, gives examples of different uses of R for Stata users and introduces syntax.
