Véronique Kabongo


Véronique Kabongo is the World Bank Country Manager for Burundi. She joined the World Bank Group in 2008 as a program manager in the Advisory services division of the International Finance Corporation (IFC). She has since held several leadership roles, in corporate and operational units, including, WBG Human Resources Manager of Executive resources, Lead Learning Officer and Governance Lead Operations Officer. She has worked in private and public organizations in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.

Véronique’s most recent assignment was to lead the Bank’s dialogue on civil service reform in Burkina Faso. She worked in partnership with the IFI’s and other donors’ community to seek a multi sectoral approach to reducing fiscal pressure that the wage bill exercised on the country’s macro-fiscal framework while simultaneously providing tools ensuring citizen’s constructive engagement in the overall dialogue.

Specialized in institutional development, Mrs Kabongo regularly advises decision-makers in leading and executing complex reforms in the context of sensitive environment focusing on finding common solutions for multiple stakeholder. Her areas of expertise range from human resources management and strengthening private and public institutions capacities to organizational design, business process improvement and business management.

Véronique holds a master’s degree in political science and international relations from the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from Saint-Louis University of Brussels.
