Olga Fuentes, a Chilean national, is Executive Director at the World Bank Group (WBG), representing the constituency of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay since November 1, 2024. She previously served as Alternate Executive Director from 2022 to 2024.
Ms. Fuentes has extensive experience in the public sector and is highly respected as an economist with a distinguished career in research and policy. In 2022, she received recognition for Public Service from the University of Chile, Economics and Business School.
Before joining the WBG Board, she held leading positions at the Chilean Pension Regulator, including Deputy Chair of Regulation, Head of the Studies Division, and Head of Strategic Research and International Affairs. Ms. Fuentes was Vice-President of the International Organization of Pension Supervisors (IOPS) between 2015 and 2022 and served as delegate of the Chilean government to the OECD from 2009 to 2022.
She has spent over 16 years in Chile’s public sector, including roles at the Central Bank, and Ministry of Finance, where she was Senior Advisor to the Minister of Finance on macroeconomic and financial matters and worked at the Central Bank of Chile as an International Finance Economist, on the analysis of international financial markets and countries economic and financial developments. In the financial sector, she was research analyst at a major Chilean Stockbroker firm. Ms. Fuentes has also been a consultant for the IADB, speaker at international conferences, lecturer in economics and finance in Chile and the United States, and author of papers and articles covering investment dynamics, pensions, financial education, experimental evaluations, unemployment insurance, labor, applied micro-econometrics, and applied macroeconomics.
She has a bachelor’s degree in Economics and a master’s degree in Finance from the University of Chile. Ms. Fuentes holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Boston University.
