Nithin Umapathi


Nithin Umapathi, Senior Economist, is an Indian national who speaks fluent Russian and works internationally on the design of social assistance, social insurance, and labor market policies. Over the last few years he has been active in advisory and technical assistance roles in supporting energy subsidy reforms.

He also co-authored the World Bank’s East Asia aging report titled “Live Long and Prosper” and has published on wide-ranging topics, such as on social protection, education, early childhood interventions, and econometrics of program evaluation. His work has been featured in the Economist and Financial Times and published in academic journals including in the Journal of Applied Econometrics, World Development, Journal of Development Studies, Journal of African Economies, Journal of Development Effectiveness, Energy Policy, Asia & the Pacific Policy Studies and Asia Pacific Viewpoint.

Nithin Received his PhD in Economics from University College London.
