Miguel Coelho


Miguel Coelho, Portuguese national, serve as Alternate Executive Director for Italy, Portugal, Albania, Greece, Malta, San Marino, Timor Leste since May 1, 2020.

Mr. Coelho has over 18 years of experience in public economics. Prior to joining the WBG Board, Mr. Coelho was the Chief Economist in the Office of the Finance Minister and Policy Expert, State Budget Office in the Portuguese Ministry of Finance (2016-2020). He served as a Fellow and Senior Economist and Head of the Secretariat at the Institute for Government in the London School of Economics Growth Commission (2011-2016). He was Senior Policy Advisor, Analytics Team, Policy and Implementation Unit at 10 Downing Street, Strategy Advisor in the UK Department for Education, and Senior Policy Advisor in the UK Prime Minister Strategy Unit (2008-2011).

Mr. Coelho earned a Ph.D. in Public Policy from the University of Birmingham, UK, 2006; a Master in Science Public Service Management (with distinction) from the University of Birmingham, UK, 2003; a Licenciatura in Economics from University of Porto at Portugal, 2002.
