Matteo Bugamelli is the World Bank Group Executive Director for Albania, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, San Marino, and Timor-Leste.
Mr. Bugamelli comes from over 20 years of experience working with the Bank of Italy: immediately before joining the WBG Board, he was Director in the Research Department and Coordinator of the Regional Research Branches; and prior to that, he led the Economic Structure and Labor Market Division.
Mr. Bugamelli holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Bologna (Italy) and a PhD in Economics from Columbia University, New York. He has been a visiting scholar in the Department of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley.
Mr. Bugamelli has authored and co-authored several articles on International Trade, International Migration and Remittances, Firm Behavior, publishing in journals like Economica, the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, the Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking, the Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, World Development.
