Fernando Im


Fernando Im is the senior country economist for Sri Lanka-Maldives. His responsibilities include monitoring macro-fiscal developments, providing technical assistance and policy advice on topics related to macroeconomics, fiscal policy, debt management and structural issues. 

In his previous position, he was the senior economist for El Salvador and Nicaragua, in charge of macroeconomic surveillance and the leading the economic policy dialogue in these countries. He also worked as country economist for South Africa and Swaziland based in Pretoria, where he contributed to the policy dialogue and key analytical work.

He joined the World Bank Group as a Young Professional in 2009, working in the DEC Chief Economist Office. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park, an M.A. in Economics from McGill University, and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Buenos Aires. Research interests include international finance and open macroeconomics, growth and structural change, and fiscal policy.
