Anna Wellenstein

Anna Wellenstein has over 25 years of experience in sustainable development, leading strategy, design and financing of investments, facilitating policy reforms, and building capacity to help countries reduce poverty and boost shared prosperity in a sustainable manner. She is currently the Regional Practice Director for Planet Department in the Eastern and Southern Africa Region. Ms. Wellenstein oversees a team of over 250 staff and an active portfolio of $16 billion in investments across the region in agriculture and food, climate change, environment, social development, and water sectors.

Prior to this, Ms. Wellenstein held positions as Regional Director for Sustainable Development for East Asia and Pacific Region, Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, and Director for Strategy and Operations of the World Bank’s Social, Urban, Rural and Resilience Global Practice. Anna holds advanced degrees from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and the Fletcher School at Tufts University.
